Worship for us is first and formost about glorifying God through Jesus Christ. Through our worship God fills us with Christian mission and purpose to bring forth the kingdom of God. Individuals at Bridge of Peace are propelled from their community experience at the Bridge to make a difference in their world: be it school, work, neighborhood, government, home, etc... We encourage all to use their God given Spiritual gifts at Bridge of Peace and within the wider world to truly make a difference be they young or old; African American, Latino, White or of Mixed Ethnic Background; rich, middle class or poor; gay or straight; able-bodied or "differently-abled." Simply we believe that we are all children of God with the amazing power to change the world. At Bridge of Peace, church is an "event and a happening" and we believe that “it is a gift from the Holy Spirit working through Word and sacrament.”
Authentic worship can, therefore, be described in this multicultural community as the Greeks might truly describe “liturgia” or as we say in English as “liturgy” which literally means the work of the people. In our context where there is vast diversity of people including many children with special education needs this “work of the people” means that everyone must know, accept and affirm their own and each other's spiritual gifts, similarities and differences. Each Christian has been given special gifts for ministry which allows the Holy Spirit to work through us to build up the church. Members are helped to identify and then use their many spiritual gifts to involve the entire congregation in the act of worship which is vibrant, culturally sensitive, affirming, spontaneous, and faithful to the gospel, in Word and deed while understanding that everyone has a responsibility to build up the body of Christ in this diverse community. To experience Jesus in a community of worship is an incredible thing and it encourages and motivates us to use our gifts and passions for the good of others and to our Lord's good pleasure.
Bridge of Peace has a Deacon Board of eight highly trained spiritual leaders which help lead worship, prayer, are assistant ministers, preach, teach, do testimonies and teaching moments during worship, administer communion, provide support to members, and assist the pastor in many aspects of the life of the congregation. We also have a Vicar and a student from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia who assist with worship leadership. Join us anytime to do the work of the people. Now, meet our Deacons!
