Christian Unity Week Service
Christian Unity Week Service:
John 4:5-42
We welcomed people from around the city, state and country to our Christian Unity Service. Jesus tells a woman, an outcast, a Samaritan who he is, God shows up in the last place you would expect and says here I am, and I am the Living water for you. He knows her, he knows everything about her, he accepts her as she is and still wants to be in a relationship with this woman and says here I am for you. Well, my friends that is what Jesus says for us too. I am the living water… for you, I am here for you… I accept you… I want to be in a relationship with you… I am the one for you… In this hope we also know that the Holy Spirit gave us many gifts to serve our neighbors and tell this good news. You know this woman could have gone back home and kept the news to herself but she told her story and testified to who Jesus was so many believed in him. Jesus said yes to her and this meant she was empowered to tell the story and the good news spread. Many believed because of her and because she was willing to be out there and not be afraid, and to begin to use her voice, to know she mattered and was of value and worth. She served her neighbor and testified to the good news as we are called to do as baptized children of God. To seek justice and peace and to be using our voices and to say yes because God first said yes to us. As Christians we believe in this living water and I am the living water… and believe that Jesus said I am here for you… I accept you… I want to be in a relationship with you… I am the one for you…
This is the sure and certain hope of eternal life my friends found in these living waters, in the water of baptism, in joining the family of God, in being named as a member of that family and it’s the promise from Old Testament times to now for us by the God who loves and forgives us all our sins. The God who died for us on a cross so that we may live. Just like this woman at the well others can believe in Jesus because of the testimony we will make just like this woman made throughout the town which had them all believing Jesus is the Messiah… He is our life… Be not afraid…
For the good news will be proclaimed to all the earth that Jesus is our Lord.
